    Back 2 the Future: A Virtual Intergenerational Arts Program

    Artists take elders and youth "Back 2 the Future", in a virtual intergenerational arts program. Newark students at Elliott Street Elementary School met virtually with adult seniors living with first and mid stages of Alzheimer's and dementia. Students and adult seniors explored theatre, art, poetry, music and more together for 7 weeks virtually.

    Interview with Susan Schear, Deputy Director, and Nikki Horwitz, Project Associate, of the Newark Arts Council. "Granny Bombers & Tiny Taggers" is an intergenerational art and oral history project. Senior citizens from Newark's Ironbound Senior Center and 5th graders from nearby Ann St School created "blossoms" out of tulle and shared personal testimonies through theater-making techniques with theatre teaching artists, Angela Kariotis and Lillian Ribeiro.

The video montage captures three generations of family life without husbands and absence of fathers from one generation to the next. Lillian's mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, lived without their husbands for most of their married life.
