Newark Artist Stories is a series developed through the From Page to Stage course in the Rutgers–NJIT Theatre Arts Program.
Working alongside adjunct professor and Newark native Lillian Ribeiro, students explored play analysis, documentary theatre, and community-based artistic practices while partnering with members of Newark's vibrant arts community. Each student interviewed a Newark artist, transcribed their conversations, and transformed their words into an original first-person monologue. Throughout the process, students collaborated closely with the artists to ensure each story remained authentic to their voice and lived experience.
Through storytelling and performance, Newark Artist Stories celebrates the artists who shape Newark's cultural landscape while creating meaningful connections between students, artists, and community.
